Rast on DTM pole for Brands Hatch #SuperSunday

Sunday, August 11 2019

Rene Rast will start from pole position in this afternoon's #SuperSunday DTM race at Brands Hatch, after topping the time sheets in an Audi dominated qualifying session on the full Grand Prix circuit this morning.

Saturday winner Marco Wittmann was the first driver to set a representative lap time this morning, but his early effort behind the wheel of a BMW M4 was quickly trumped by Rast who dipped beneath the 1m16s barrier in his Audi RS5.

Rast then blitzed his own time later in the session to make certain of his pole position with a blistering time of 1m15.134s.

Audis ultimately occupied the top eight positions in the order, with Loic Duval set to share the front row of the grid with Rast after lapping three-tenths shy of the overall pace.

Robin Frijns was fourth fastest, ahead of Jamie Green who will line up on the grid as the leading Brit, whilst Mike Rockenfeller and Nico Muller will complete the top six for the Ingolstadt manufacturer.

Notably, the WRT-run Audis of Pietro Fittipaldi and Jonathan Aberdein will line up seventh and eighth in a supreme turnaround after both ran off track in yesterday's qualifying session.

Philipp Eng, who wowed the crowds with his daring charge through the pack yesterday was the leading BMW star, as Wittmann only managed to set the 12th fastest time.

Daniel Juncadella willead Aston Martin's charge this afternoon from 10th, with the manufacturer's Brits Paul Di Resta and Jake Dennis set to start from 15th and 17th respectively.
