Jamie McIntyre wins Sir Stirling Moss Trophy race

Monday, August 30 2010

Jamie McIntyre claimed victory in the headline Sir Stirling Moss Trophy race at the Oulton Park Gold Cup today (Sunday).

The pole sitter, driving a Lister Knobbly never looked troubled and claimed the win by 55.578s.

His brother, Ewan McIntyre claimed second in his Lister Knobbly with the Lister Knobbly Jaguar of Tony Wood and and Alasdair McCaig third.

But it was the entrant of Sir Stirling Moss that got the crowd talking. After a difficult morning warm up that saw the OSCA FS372 that he shares with Ian Nuthall suffer gear box issues, it looked as if the car would not start the race.

But the historic vehicle was repaired in time for Nuthall to start the race in 20th place, handing over to Moss on the 14th lap.

From there Moss was able to consistently improve his lap times, and was clearly enjoying his racing, managing to wave at the crowds and his crew on the pit wall on each lap and eventually finished 20th in a competitive field.

Meanwhile up front, McIntyre was streaking away, extending his lead by several seconds each lap and able to claim a relatively easy win.

Brother Ewan had no answer to his brother's speed but still finished second, easily clear of Wood and McCaig.

Moss was on hand to present the trophies to the top three after the race, with a huge crowd gathering at the podium to see the legendary racer congratulate his peers.
