BTCC aces flock to Donington Historic Festival

Wednesday, April 26 2017

Stars of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will be in action at the Donington Historic Festival this weekend (28 -30 April).

Champions and team mates Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan will both be competing, as will race winners Mat Jackson and Adam Morgan.

Turkington will be at the wheel of a Jaguar E-Type in the first round of the Jaguar Classic Challenge for pre-66 cars, while Jordan will pair with father and former BTCC racer, Mike, twice across the weekend. The duo will compete in the HRDC Touring Greats for Pre-60 Touring Cars in an Austin GT40, as well as the HRDC Coys Trophy for pre-66 Touring Cars in a Ford Lotus Cortina Mk1.

Jackson meanwhile will share a mighty 1982 ex-TWR Rover SD1 with Richard Postins in the Historic Touring Car Challenge race, which features plenty of BTCC interest. Morgan will share a Ford Capri with Ric Wood, while former BTCC stars Steve Soper and Patrick Watts will also be in the race, driving a Rover Bastos SD1 and a MG Metro Turbo respectively.

Touring car legend Soper has a busy weekend, not only competing in the Historic Touring Car Challenge but also in the HRDC Coys Trophy and the U2TC Pre-66 Touring Cars in a Ford Lotus Cortina, and the HRDC Touring Greats for Pre-60 cars in a Volvo Amazon.

John Cleland is another former BTCC champion with a hectic weekend! The Scot, who won the BTCC in 1989 and 1995 is set to race three times in the festival, in an Austin A30 Academy in the HRDC Touring Greats for Pre-60 cars and the HRDC Coys Trophy, while he will be re-united with his famous Vauxhall Vectra in the HSCC Super Touring Challenge.

Meanwhile Jason Hughes, a man who raced in the BTCC from 2003-2008 will also return to race in the Super Touring Car Challenge at the wheel of his MG ZS, which races for the first time in many years thanks to new regulations in the championship. Other popular BTCC cars in this race include Honda Accords, a Volvo S40, a Nissan Primera and an Audi A4.

Finally, Anthony Reid, a BTCC front-runner in the 1990s and 2000s, will be racing an AC Cobra 289 in Sunday's GT and Sports Car Cup event.

Tickets for the Donington Historic Festival are available in advance until 5pm tonight (Wednesday), and will then also be available upon arrival at the circuit throughout the weekend.
