Donington Historic Festival roars into life!

Friday, April 28 2017

The seventh consecutive Donington Historic Festival thundered into life today (Friday 28 April), with a full day of qualifying for each series competing this weekend.

Donington has reverberated to the evocative sounds of historic single seaters, touring cars, saloons and sports cars throughout the day, while spectators have also been able to savour an excellent trade village selling all sorts of rarities and other motorsport memorabilia, and large car displays around the venue.

On track, touring car aces showed their class, with Andrew and Mike Jordan setting the quickest time in the HRDC Touring Greats for pre-60 Touring Cars by over two seconds, while Colin Turkington also showed his speed with a top four time in qualifying for the Stirling Moss Trophy for pre-61 Sports Cars.

BTCC legend Steve Soper also had a good day, qualifying on pole for the Historic Touring Car Challenge with Tony Dron Trophy, second for the HRDC Coys Trophy and third in the U2TC Trophy contest. Another ex-BTCC star, Anthony Reid, also had a successful afternoon, qualifying his AC Cobra second for the GT & Sports Car Cup race for pre-66 GT and pre-63 sportscars.

The festival steps up another gear tomorrow (Saturday) with further spectator entertainment including stunt driving lessons with Paul Swift, Caterham drift training,  rallying and kart demos, auto solos and dream car passenger rides all starting on the second day of the event.

A total of 10 races will take place on Saturday, starting at 9.10am for the Historic Formula Junior, followed by the Super Touring Car Challenge, Pre-War Sports Cars, U2TC Touring Cars and Formula 2. A further five races follow in the afternoon, concluded by a 90 minute spectacular for the '1000km' for pre-73 Prototype, Touring and GT cars.

Tickets for the two remaining days of the festival are available upon arrival at the circuit for £27 per day or £45 for a combined Saturday and Sunday ticket.
