Oulton Park set for Bank Holiday MCE BSB spectacular this weekend

Tuesday, April 25 2017

Oulton Park is gearing up for a Bank Holiday bonanza this weekend (April 29 - May 1) as Britain's biggest motorsport series, the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, hits Cheshire with some of the world's leading riders going head-to-head.

The MCE BSB is renowned for breathtaking action, with over 25 riders from across the globe, including national and international champions. The series features the world's most coveted two wheeled-machines, including bikes from Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and BMW.

The Cheshire circuit will host the third event of the new season, and former World Superbike star Leon Haslam holds the advantage heading into Bank Holiday Monday's two races. The JG Speedfit Kawasaki contender is facing fierce opposition, however, including his young gun team-mate Luke Mossey, who scored his first two wins last time out at Brands Hatch.

Haslam said: "I am excited about the weekend. We had a really positive test last week; we were under the lap record and I felt confident running over race distance. I feel that we go into the races positive that we can come out fighting again."

Local hero Christian Iddon will be aiming for the top at his home round for the Tyco BMW squad. The Stockport rider narrowly missed out on a debut win at the circuit last year and after celebrating three podium finishes from the opening four races he is aiming for one better this weekend.

Fearless Aussie Josh Brookes has celebrated plenty of success in Cheshire in the past, and the 2015 champion will be pushing to make a podium return, as will defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne. The five-time title-winner has had a disastrous start to the season, with just one fourth place in the opening four rounds. He's ready to fight back with a vengeance, however, and is aiming to put the Penrith-based Be Wiser Ducati team back on the podium this weekend.

A packed programme of supporting categories includes a further eight races this weekend, including the thrilling Dickies British Supersport Championship and the spectacular British Sidecar series. Spectators can also meet the stars of the show with a free pitlane walk on Monday's main raceday.

Off-track entertainment includes live music on Saturday and Sunday nights, a fun fair, trade village, children's playground and an army display and climbing wall on main raceday Monday.

Discounted advance tickets for the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship are available until midday Wednesday from £27 with free entry for under-13s. For more information and to book call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
